Sports Performance

Athletes in our society encounter a significant amount of stress in their daily lives that can be overwhelming and distracting. With high expectations that may be self-imposed, parent-imposed, coach-imposed and/or society-imposed, the ability to balance athletic, academic, employment, social and family demands, while still obtaining inner balance, can seem like an enormous undertaking for athletes. The importance of balance to achieve peak performance is mandatory, but often difficult to obtain.

Dr. Simms believes there are five pivotal areas in the life of the athlete that foster this balance:

  • Self-motivation
  • Emotion regulation
  • Attention & focus
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal connections

Dr. Simms uses a collaborative approach with the athlete to assess the five pivotal areas and identify all areas of strength and weakness. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Guided Imagery skills are taught to foster mental and physical balance that leads to peak performance. In addition, Dr. Simms provides consulting and workshop services for sports teams at the high school and collegiate level.
